Description

Church, 1857-9 by Stockton and Son, renovated 1884. Coursed, squared sandstone with gritstone with gritstone dressings. Steeply pitched slate roof. Stone coped gables, gableted to ridge. Moulded kneelers. Bellcote to west gable. Nave, lower chancel, south porch and north vestry. Early English Style. West elevation:- tall chamfered pointed arch, blind except for three stepped lancets. To either side, large clasping buttresses. North elevation has three pairs of double lancets with stepped buttresses between. Small vestry to east with segmental arched doorcase to west. Double Caernarvon arched window to east. Beyond, vestry single lancet to chancel. East window,three lancets with bullseye window over. Clasping buttresses either side. Two single lancets with buttresses between to south chancel wall. Two double lancets with buttress between, south porch and single lancet to west, to south nave wall. Double chamfered pointed porch arch. Half column pilasters supportinq soffit of doorcase. Chamfered pointed arched inner door. Interior:-very plain with double chamfered chancel arch and scissor truss roofs. Panelled chancel with four centred arch door to north vestry. Stained glass to round east window. Original pulpit and lecturn, both wooden with cusped panelling. Two fonts, both octagonal, one very plain, other contemporary. Plain octagonal bowl on central stem with four marble columns to sides with carved capitals. C20 iron top. Listing NGR: SK3727157609
