Description

Manor House. Early C17, late C17 and C19. Coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and quoins. Stone slate roof with coped gables. External gable stacks and ridge and gable stacks. Two and three storeys. South elevation of five bays. Tall three storey part to right has a 3-light recessed and chamfered mullion with hoodmould and a tall 3-light casement window to left. Two 4-light recessed and chamfered mullioned and transomed windows above and two 4-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows above again. To the left a two-storey gabled porch bay. Flight of eight stone steps up to a doorway with chamfered surround of massive quoins and lintel. Plank door. 4-light recessed and chamfered mullion and transomed window above. Single storey wing to left has a 3-light chamfered mullion window and a 4-light recessed and chamfered mullion window. East elevation has a massive external stack with quoins and a 2-light and single light recessed and chamfered mullion window set high up. Rear elevation has a doorway with stone lintel and jambs, and panelled door. To the right a 3-light C20 casement and to the left a 5-light recessed and chamfered mullion window. Two similar 3-light windows above and two similar but smaller 3-light windows above again. Irregular ranges to right with casements, mullioned windows and a glazing bar sash. Drystone garden wall attached to east, turning south and west along the road. Gateway to south with moulded lintel and quoins. Steeply chamfered copings, stepped up over the gateway. Interior: Closed string staircase with heavy turned balusters and turned finials. Room in the west wing has panelling of c1700 and a moulded stone hearth. The upper rooms have panelled partitions.
