Description
15 lamp standards. Mid C19, converted and restored C20. Part of Sir Joseph Paxton's layout for Broad Walk. Manufactured by R & J Dempster Ltd, Manchester. Cast-iron. Sectioned glass lantern (C20) with acorn finial, over cross bars on tapering 2 tier shaft, which is reeded to top and fluted below on octagonal base. Inscribed REVO TIPTON above cross bars and J DEMPSTER AND SON to fluted base. The left-hand cross bar to the 11th and 13th lamp posts are missing Electricity Board Nos 8503 to 8517. The Broad Walk comprises a series of Victorian villas and walk overlooking the Pavilion Gardens. (The Buildings of England: Pevsner N: Derbyshire: Harmondsworth: 1953-1986: 117).
