Description

This record has been generated from an "old county number" (OCN) scheduling record. These are monuments that were not reviewed under the Monuments Protection Programme and are some of our oldest designation records. As such they do not yet have the full descriptions of their modernised counterparts available. An ancient stone bridge of five arches, two of which on the down stream side are of Gothic form, with four under ribs. Bridge apparently widened in the C18th and finished with round arches and straight parapets on the upstream side. <1> A fine stone bridge over the River Derwent at the northern end of the village known as Darley Bridge. The river is quite broad at this point and all four arches have water flowing through. <2 > SOURCES = Desc text/OW819////<1>; Desc text/AM107/Appleby CA/1985//< 2>; Mention////Ancient Bridges Midland Eastern England/P29 <3>
