Milepost to west of Denby Pottery, Denby Road, Denby, erected c1840. 'Cast iron milepost on the north-west side of the Derby to Chesterfield (via Alfreton) road. Triangular section, with mileages to Alfreton and Chesterfield on one side (5½ and 16 miles respectively) and Derby and Burton on the other (7½ and 19 respectively). On the top '134 LONDON'. The milepost was probably manufactured by J Heywood of Derby.' (1) Photo on County Treasure recording form. (2) From the National Heritage List for England: 'PARISH OF DENBY DERBY ROAD SK 34 NE 1/7 (North Side) Milepost 20 metres west of Denby Pottery Works II Milepost. c1840. Cast iron. Triangular sectioned base with east side inscribed 'DERBY/8, BURTON/19' and west side inscribed 'ALFn/5 1/2 CHESTd/16'. Above a triangular sloping top, with a triangular topped headpiece over inscribed '134/LONDON'. Listing NGR: SK3914947460.' (3)
