Full Description

Milepost, north of Carnfield Hall, South Normanton, an early 19th century structure. 'Cast iron milepost, triangular section with a sloping head and raised lettering. The west side is inscribed 'MANSFIELD / 8 / MILES', the east side is inscribed 'ALFRETON / 1 / MILE' and the sloping top is inscribed 'SOUTH / NORMANTON'. The manufacturer is Midworth of Mansfield.' (1) From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 45 NW PARISH OF SOUTH NORMANTON CARNFIELD HILL 12/157 (South Side) Milepost to north of Carnfield Hall GV II Milepost. Early C19. Cast iron. Triangular sectioned base with sloping head, bead fillet to edge and raised lettering. West side inscribed 'MANSFIELD 8 MILES', east side inscribed 'ALFRETON 1 MILE' and top inscribed 'SOUTH NORMANTON'. Listing NGR: SK4256756119.' (2)
