Full Description

'Sudbury Memorial Homes' appear on the 3rd edition 25" OS map of the early 20th century, but not on the 2nd edition 25" OS map of c. 1900. (1-2) The Sudbury Almshouses were built by H Tatham Sudbury. (3) There is a memorial plaque on the Sudbury Almshouses: 'SUDBURY MEMORIAL HOMES. ERECTED TO THE MEMORY OF ALDERMAN FRANCIS SUDBURY. J. P. FIRST MAYOR OF ILKESTON 1887.' (4) The almshouses are still extant and appear to be in residential use [2012]. (5)
