Building record MDR14201 - Possible smithy, northeast of Riber Castle, Riber, Matlock Town

Type and Period (1)

Protected Status/Designation

Full Description

Along the unmarked lane that leads from Riber Road to Riber Castle there is a small stone building set to the northern side of the lane, at the base of the old quarry (now overgrown). This structure appears to be of a similar deign and building construction to other structures within the curtilage of the Castle. It is possible that it was built at the southern end of the quarry as a smithy. The building was included in Riber Conservation Area in May 2014. (1)
