Full Description

Former site of formal garden and lawn of Etwall Hall, off Main Street, Etwall, established in the 17th century. The garden and its wall might have been established in c1646, at the time Sir Samuel Sleigh of Ashe purchased the lordship of the manor and the hall, and began his substantial re-build of the property. (1) The extent and plan of the walled garden is shown on the Etwall Tithe map of 1849. (2) It is assumed that the garden went out of use at the same time as the demolition of the hall in 1955.
