Full Description

Former store at Highlow Farm, Highlow, a mid-20th century building. The building is first shown on OS mapping of 1964-1971, it is '...rectangular in planform, constructed of random gritstone faced redbrick with rock-faced stone quoins and a pitched roof of stone slates. The northwest elevation contains a central window opening with a punched gritstone sill and concrete lintel. The opening contains a timber hopper window (visible internally) but is boarded up externally. At the apex of the gable is an iron pole supporting cables and a floodlight. The southwest elevation is plain, with no openings. At eaves height are embedded cast iron gutter brackets. The northeast elevation contains three doorways under a continuous concrete lintel. The southernmost opening retains a timber plank sliding door hung on an iron rail which is supported by timber posts fixed to the masonry and concrete lintel. The northernmost door, with six-pane top glazing, has been rehung on hinge pintles fixed to an inserted timber plank. There is a narrow window between the central and northern door openings with timber frame and bottom hopper casement.' (1) See also (2).
