Almshouses, Nos. 15-21 West Road, Derby, built in 1873. From the National Heritage List for England: 'WEST ROAD 1. 5170 (south side) Spondon SK 33 NE 9/63B Nos 15-21 (odd) Barrow's Almshouses II 2. Row of of almshouses. 1873, with minor C20 alterations. Erected for Mr Barrow, Red and blue brick with painted ashlar dressings. Slate roof and 4 stacks with ashlar coping. 9 bays. 1 1/2 storey. Central gabled,slightly projecting bay,with central doorway with C20 double doors and a raised strapwork hood, flanked by single light windows which rise above the hood. Above a pointed arch containing a memorial panel dated 1873. Either side are 2 light casements, with C20 casements inserted above. Either side again a slightly projecting gabled bays,with pairs of panel doors, in each, under wooden bracketed lean-to hoods. Above pairs of 2 light casements. Beyond again on either side are 2 light casements with C20 casements inserted above. All original openings have chamfered, painted ashlar surrounds. Listing NGR: SK3976836255.' (1)
