Garden walls, iron work, summer house and bridge at Barton Hall, Barton Blount, of 18th century date. From the National Heritage List for England 'SK 23 SW PARISH OF BARTON BLOUNT OFF BARTON LANE 3/3 (West Side) Garden walls,iron- work, Summer- house & bridge at Barton Hall GV II Garden wall with urns, terracing, ha-ha wall, bridge, summer house, iron railings and gates. C18, C19 and c1925. Sandstone and red brick. Stone ha-ha wall to south of Hall, continuing westwards as a retaining wall, stone coped with C18 urns. Linked by a stone balustrade to a terrace wall along the south side of the house with a double flight of steps and early C18 wrought iron railings, from St Mary's Gate Chapel in Derby, probably by Robert Bakewell. Formal gardens on the west side of the house with a pair of wrought iron gates of c1926, bought from the Royal Show in Derby. Attached brick wall along the north side. The wall continues to the west, with another wrought iron gate, probably by Bakewell and said to have come from a demolished house in Friargate, Derby. Brick walls to north enclosing a small garden with a summer house of c1933 with pyramid roof and muilioned and transomed window. Fake 1633 datestone over the door. Further walled garden to east with wrought iron screen on the north side, dated 1771, and said to have come from Wollaton Hall. c1926 gates on east side, of a medievalising portcullis design. The Hall was sold to Basil Mallender in 1925 who then laid out much of the gardens and collected ironwork from elsewhere. Listing NGR: SK2082534616.' (1)
