Full Description

Skeleton of rhinoceros and remains of ox and deer were found in a large cavern penetrated from a lead mine called the Dream, in December 1822. It is in the hamlet of Callow about one mile west of Wirksworth, towards Hopton. (1) Dream Hole large open fissure on summit of hill. (2) Reviewed (2026), both aerial photgraphy and LiDAR (4) show fissure as still being open, but blocked by vegitation.
