West Lodge, Holme Lane, Bakewell, built in 1841. 'A late 17th to early 18th century cottage on the north side of the drive from Holme Hall lodge. It is built of limestone rubble with millstone grit quoins. The building is of two storeys and has two windows with (possibly 19th century) stone mullions and leaded casements. These are two and four light with one dormer across the eaves. There are 3-light windows in the Western façade and a central door with a small flat stone braketed hood. There is a central chimney with a slate roof and coped gable ends.' Map. Former entrance lodge to Holme Hall (qv). Dated 1841. Coursed dressed limestone with ashlar sandstone dressings; graduated slate roof. Tudor Revival style. EXTERIOR: single storey and attic in compact T-shaped plan with gabled entrance towards drive to Holme Hall and 2-window front facing Holme Lane. Chamfered plinth, large quoins. Double-chamfered mullioned windows with leaded lights and dripmoulds. Porch and main gables with shaped kneelers, chamfered gable copings and shaped finials. Entrance front: open-fronted ashlar porch with moulded Tudor arch; 3-panelled pine door within, the lintel dated '1841'. Flanking single-light windows and 2-light window to attic. Short wing set back to right in same style. Left return (facing Holme Lane): 2-light window on left of canted ashlar bay window of 1:2:1-lights beneath ashlar roof. Roof with rolled tile ridge with central stack having twin diagonally-set flues with cornices. INTERIOR: not inspected. Listing NGR: SK2172869060.' (2)
