Full Description

Dimensions: Dia. 20m H. 1.6m 1 of a number of barrows on Calton Pastures, 4 of which were excavated by T bateman on 2.5.1850. This 1 was excavated by Major Rooke in either 1779 or 1787. A small cist with a "coarse urn" (prob. a Food Vessel) and a cremation was found. It is clear from the monument that a trench was put through the centre. It is now 1.2m below the top of the mound. (1) The trench through the centre prob. by Bateman in 1850 produced pieces of a decorated pottery vessel. (11)
