[Name SK 295 747] Bole Hill [T.I.] (1) Bole Hill occurs as "le Bolehull" in 1364 and Huett Bolehill in 1615. [Indicates early lead or iron smelting site.] (2)
There is extensive, generally shallow quarrying, old and overgrown, in the vicinity of Bole Hill. There is no visible evidence of smelting but adjacent woods and water may substantiate the authenticity of the name. (3)
