Full Description

[SK 2083 8020] The unmistakeable circle of a bole hearth on Smelting Hill at the top of the last '1' of the word 'Hill' [on OS 6" 1923] Grey slag [lead] from here is like that from probable 18th/19th cent. smelting hillocks at Charterhouse-on-Mendip. (1) No traces of the site could be seen in 1965. The area is now covered by heather and bracken. (2)
