Milepost, east of Risley Grammar School, Derby Road, Risley, an early 19th century structure. 'Cast iron bobbin type mile post made by J Harrison of Derby. Located on the Derby-Nottingham turnpike.' (1) Photographs show the milepost to be painted white, with the lettering on the head in black. (2) From the National Heritage List for England: 'PARISH OF RISLEY DERBY ROAD SK 46 NE 2/97 (North Side) Bobbin Milepost east of Risley Grammar School (SK 4635 3574) GV II Milepost. Early C19. Cast iron. Bobbin type milepost on narrow circular stem with cylindrical head and moulded top, standing about 3 feet high. West side inscribed 'NOTTm/8/MILES', east side inscribed 'DERBY/8/MILES' and stem inscribed 'HARRISON, DERBY'. Listing NGR: SK4630435725.' (3)
