Full Description

Cast iron bobbin type mile post made by J Harrison of Derby. Located on the Derby-Nottingham turnpike. (1). Grade II listed cast iron milepost, of early 19th century date. It is a bobbin type milepost, on a narrow circular stem with a cylindrical head and a moulded top, standing about 3 feet high. The west side is inscribed 'NOTT.m / 8 / MILES', the east side is inscribed 'DERBY /8 / MILES', and the stem is inscribed 'HARRISON, DERBY'. (2) Photographs show the milepost to be painted white, with the lettering on the head in black. (3)
