Full Description

The Shipley-Heanor branch of the Great Northern Railway appears to have been constructed in the late 19th century. It served several collieries in the Shipley-Heanor area. (1-2) The railway has now been dismantled, but parts of the line can still be followed in the landscape. (3) The remains of the trackbed of the former Great Northern Railway Ilkeston-Heanor branch of 1886 can be followed through Shipley Park and adjacent areas. (4)
