Full Description
Bank and ditch, Whitwell Wood, Whitwell, of unknown date.
Length of earthen bank and ditch, with the ditch is on the south side, presumably an early phase in the development of this wood. (1)
An area sense with banks and ditches was surveyed in 1994. 'By using early cartographic evidence the…earthworks can be related to a period of use. By matching the surviving earthworks and paths …fit neatly onto the southwest of a 1779 map, and with the extant paths clearly divide the area into woodland and arable fields.' (2)
