Full Description

Near Green's House there is field called the Hovel where there is a large area of lead slag and charcoal, possibly the site of a smelting bole. (1) The slag is more likely to have come from the nearby early 18th century lead smelting site of Greens Mill (SMR 11319). Today there is no sign of discolouration in the grass field which might be expected from poisoning by the lead slag. (2)
