Full Description

'Kilbourne Colliery' is shown on the 1st edition OS 6" map of 1888 and on the 2nd edition 25" map of 1900, with shafts, tips, numerous buildings, and a mineral railway running from the colliery to the Ripley Branch of the main line railway. The colliery is marked as 'disused' on the OS 25" edition of 1914, by which date the tip had extended eastwards beyond the Bottle Brook. (1-3) Iron rails, points and turntable are present on the ground. (4) The remains of Kilburn Colliery include workshops and the manager's house, with a weighbridge building and land-sale office. (5)
