Title Acre Lane, Aston: Recording of the Aston Cursus along a Newly Cut Storm-Ditch on the Line of the Derby Southern Bypass.
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1995

Abstract/Summary

The sides of a storm-drain, cut through the Aston Cursus, were cleaned and recorded. The western cursus ditch was not present, hence there must be a gap, or entrance through the cursus ditch, immediately north of Acre Lane. No aerial photographs record this gap because it is obscured by hedgerow. The eastern cursus ditch was located buried below 1.3m of sediment and 100m away from the line of the western cursus ditch. Samples were taken for palaeoenvironemental anaysis. A fragment of waterlogged wood from the base of the cursus ditch will enable a radiocarbon date.
