Abstract/Summary

The assessment analyses aerial photographs, documentary sources and an assessment of geotechnical data. The landscape in the area is dominated by the fields of post-medieval enclosure and to the west by suburban growth of Derby. A number of more ancient landscape area were identified principally at Stocker Flat in Alvaston and around Elvaston Castle. Two sites of archaeological interest are affected by the proposed road: 1. Cropmark enclosures at Elvaston 2. Palaeoenvironmental material at Stocker Flat.
