Evidence for prehistoric activity has been recovered during excavations and watching briefs prior to and during sand and gravel extraction at Willington Quarry.

Grade II* listed Roman Catholic church by A W Pugin completed in 1839.

Church founded as a private chapel in 1792 by Sir Richard Arkwright. Later made into a parish church and restored in 1858.

Quarry active circa 1789, source of Hopton Wood Stone, part of which is now a nature reserve owned by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.

A series of cropmarks representing a complex of late prehistoric enclosures, linear features, pit alignments and possible barrows.
