Listed Building record MDR11591 - Foston Hall, Foston

Type and Period (1)

Protected Status/Designation

Full Description

Foston Hall is a remarkably striking essay in neo-Jacobean, built by T C Hine of Nottingham in rather arresting red brick in 1863. This house replaced a 17th century one with 18th century additions, destroyed by fire in 1830. This house in turn had probably replaced an earlier house, no doubt that erected by Thomas Agard sometime before 1310. The present house was purchased by the Home Office after a wartime spell in the hands of the military, and is now a Detention Centre. (1)
