Western Range, eastern courtyard, Babington Hospital, Derby Road, Belper, built c1838. From the National Heritage List for England: 'DERBY ROAD 1. 5167 (West Side ) Western range to eastern courtyard at Babington Hospital SK 3446 3/113 SK 3446 4/113 II GV 2. Circa 1838 (Bulmer) but not on Belper Tithe Map (1844) Circa 1845-50? Architect, Sir George Gilbert Scott. Designed as a workhouse for the Belper Union. Jacobean style. Ashlar with quoins and slate roof. Three storeyed centre with gabled dormers which break through eaves. Central lantern. Three storeyed canted bays either side of Tudor arched doorway which has small flanking windows. Latticed iron glazing except for main windows of lower 2 storeys. Rear elevation has centre gable. Outer wings of 2 storeys and 3 gabled dormers which break through eaves, 5 windows each below. Some modern glazing. Listing NGR: SK3460346987.' (1)
