Entrance gates and gate piers to Thornbridge Hall, A6020, Ashford in the Water, of late 19th century date. From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 17 SE PARISH OF ASHFORD IN THE WATER BASLOW ROAD 3/10 (West Side) Gates at eastern entrance to 12.7.1967 Thornbridge Hall (formerly listed as 'Gate piers to eastern entrance to Thornbridge Park' and "Gate piers beside eastern lodge at Thornbridge Park) GV II Entrance gates. C18 and late C19, Gritstone and cast iron. Two tall square stone piers, approximately 12' high, to centre; two smaller piers to sides, approximately 8' high. Those to centre have raised and fielded panels, to east and west. Banded rustication to sides. Moulded cornices. Topped by decorated C19 urn finials with four projecting griffin heads. Piers to sides have banded rustication to all sides. Topped by similar urn finials. Central pair of gates have central scroll decoration and scrolled decoration to sides, Elaborate scrolled top in C18 manner. Side gates in similar style but less elaborate. Attached walls to west either side with moulded copings, finished to west with large C19 urns; fluted to base, then decorated with foliage swags and dog-heads. Gates originally water powered.
