Title The Excavation of Barrow 4 at Swarkeston
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1960

Abstract/Summary

This was a full report of the excavation of the barrow from summer 1955 to autumn 1956. It revealed that the barrow was constructed in two phases. A small irregular shaped barrow containing an inhumation inserted into a pit. This had been covered by a larger barrow surrounded by a ditch. The larger barrow had also covered traces of earlier activity in the form of groups of stake and post holes. A robber trench had cut deep into the mound. It ontained nothing earlier than Iron Age.
